  • What is your teaching philosophy?
I like to let every class naturally unwind with what the kids are interested in, while still sticking to my plan on what to accomplish in class time. This allows every class to be unique and more fun for everybody.

How long have you been teaching music?
I’ve been teaching music since November of 2012, when I was hired as an intern at Youth Music Project. I’ve helped out with classes and summer camps since then, and now have been promoted to an instructor before the 2015 fall term.

What is your favorite thing about teaching music?
My favorite thing about teaching music is the end product, the concerts. The performances are what we all work for, and at Youth Music Project they are the best!

What do you expect of your students?
I expect my students to be able to play a solid performance of a song after a 10-week term, and practice between every class, coming ready to play with the whole group.

    About Peter
Peter McCoid was born and raised in the suburbs of Portland, Oregon, with rock music intertwined with his way of life. His musical journey began during his childhood in Willamette, Oregon, at a very young age when he was exposed to writing music. This experience motivated him to teach himself guitar, and write his own songs. It wasn’t long before he was playing in front of small crowds of the neighborhood parents and starting bands. Later on in high school, Peter founded Andromeda Sun, a band that played shows in venues between Eugene and Seattle from 2012-2016. Some of their original material was aired on popular radio stations in Portland, Oregon, including KINK. Peter started teaching at Youth Music Project nine years ago. In July of 2015, he fulfilled a lifetime dream, representing Youth Music Project while playing at the legendary Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival in downtown Portland.
