Kristian Hochreiter

  • The son of a piano teacher and a classic rock radio DJ, Kristian Hochreiter has grown up exploring the love of music that his parents instilled in him at a young age. With a BS in Sociology from Portland State University and a MBA in Nonprofit Management from Marylhurst, he works as Youth Music Project’s development associate, connecting with supporters of our mission and programs to help raise funds. Working at Youth Music Project is a “dream come true” for Kristian, as it combines his passion for music with his background in nonprofit fundraising.

Kristian enjoys being creative with ideas and solving problems. His favorite instrument to play is his acoustic guitar, and he’s particularly fond of indie folk and indie rock music like Radical Face, Aimee Mann, and The National. These days, he typically has songs like “Goose Snow Cone” and “Wish You Were Here” running through his head.

One of the most rewarding parts of Kristian’s job is the Student Concert Week performances — seeing how far all the kids have come at the end of each term is really inspiring!

Besides working on his singing-songwriting and recording music at home, in his spare time Kristian is a competitive chili cook with an award-winning Maple Bacon Double-Cheeseburger chili. If he could be any musical instrument, he would be a cello or a Moog synthesizer … depending on his mood.

  • We're passionate about music education
