We will explore the world of music production, audio recording, mixing, and more. This class is perfect for beginners interested in learning the basic tools and techniques of modern audio engineering. Starting with simple ideas, we will layer sounds together and mix down original tracks!

Beat Making and Composition
Learn to create music from ground up! Students will start with the fundamentals of sound, acoustics, and human perception of sound. Students will compose their own music incorporating many different concepts including beat-making. form, music theory, arranging, and mixing as they move through the process of learning the technology and tools of music production.

This is an all-encompassing class designed to help students think about music creation from a wholistic perspective and understand the process and steps of manifesting a musical idea into a fully-formed composition!

Classes are 90 minutes.

Soundscapes
Imagine yourself at the fair, or the beach, or in the woods. What do you hear? How do you feel? A soundscape is a recording that guides the listener to experience a certain environment, emotion, or feeling within an environment. In this class, students will experiment with combining sounds from their surroundings with musical elements to create a soundscape. Learn music and audio production fundamentals like recording and mixing, and how to tell a story through sound.

Experience with, at least, one instrument (including voice!) is required.

Making the Video

Let your imagination run free to create a visual story for your favorite music in YMP’s new Music Tech Lab.

In this class students will have the opportunity to learn all the steps to plan, create and put together a full music video for a song of their choice using their own ideas.
