Isa Thompson
EE-sa TOMp-sinBorn and raised in Costa Rica, Isabel Thompson moved to the U.S. thanks to a music scholarship. She earned a doctoral degree with emphasis on clarinet performance from the University of Miami, Florida. She spent eleven years teaching privately and performing with South Florida orchestras. She has taught music to students aged 4 to 85! Isa was also a founding member and conductor of 2 elementary school band programs in the Palm Beach School District, where she wrote and won a grant that facilitated the program to continue after her departure. Isabel’s non-degree education includes non-fiction writing, photography and metalsmithing. During the 2024-25 school year, she was awarded a fellowship from Creative West’s National Cohort of Leaders of Color representing Oregon. She is also a Grant Panelist for the Oregon Arts Commission.
