  • Music Theory: Building Core Skills

Students will learn the fundamentals of Western music theory in a sequential manner using keyboards and by reading traditional music notation (both electronic and pencil/paper).  Subject matter will begin with basic music notation/reading and progress through scales, chord construction, harmonic/melodic analysis and culminate in short, multi-voice student compositions. This class is perfect for students who wish to explore the why and how music works the way it does. Although keyboards will be used, students from all instrumental and vocal backgrounds are welcome regardless of skill level. Prerequisite: 12–18
