Susan comes to Youth Music Project with 15+ years of experience with youth in afterschool programs, school day education, and children’s community theater – most recently as the Master Trainer & Quality Improvement Coordinator for a Wilsonville based non-profit, where she developed and delivered trainings and evaluations for after-school and out-of-school recreation, education, and youth development programs across the state of Oregon.

She studied Elementary Education at Portland State University, and is one of the select few to have received a School Age Professional Credential from the Oregon Center for Career Development in Childhood Care and Education. She is also an Oregon Registry Master Trainer with more than 1,000 hours of experience training adults to work in youth programs.

Susan has also served as the State President of the Oregon PTA, and has received Lifetime Achievement Awards from both the Oregon and the National PTA chapters.  She has been a National Afterschool Association Emotional Intelligence Fellow (2016) and National Afterschool Association Play Ambassador (2018).

Susan knows first-hand the power performance holds for youth, having launched and run an afterschool drama program for 6 years for elementary youth in the community that culminated in an annual school play.  As a parent of musicians, she has been a champion of music education and understands the value and importance that parental support plays in the development of music skills, and how positive musical experiences can benefit a child’s social & emotional development and well-being.

In her free time Susan likes to make things – knitted things, LEGO things, and edible things.
